Description: Bloor Information and Life Skills Centre (BILS) was founded in 1971 as a community based non-profit multi ethnic agency. They provide culturally sensitive services in Albanian, Bengali, Cantonese, English, Hindi, Mandarin, Spanish and Urdu. All of their services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. They are committed towards providing services in an environment which is free from discrimination and harassment.

The Abused Women program is targeted to women who are presently at risk or have previously experienced violence in their relationships. BILS’ objective is to empower the women through their self-esteem supported by personal and community resources where they can become independent in their lives and exhibit the power of making decisions by thinking clearly and meaningfully.

They provide services as follows:

• Crisis intervention
• Supportive counselling
• Family court information: restraining order, child from Family Court
• Child custody / Support
• Social assistance
• Case management
• Application for legal aid
• Arrangement to go to a shelter
• Priority housing
• Safety plan
• Child safety and advocacy
• Accompaniment to family court, social assistance office, legal aid

Services are provided in Spanish, Bengali, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.
