Group Name: Turner & Porter – Bereavement Support

Description: Turner & Porter is a funeral service firm in Ontario, trusted by approximately 2,500 families every year. We are honoured and consider it a privilege more families turn to us in their time of sorrow, having confidence in our long tradition of service that is compassionate, attentive, correct to the smallest detail, and completely guaranteed.

At Turner & Porter, we understand that following a funeral, there is still so much to do. We are pleased to assist with the following Healing Resources. C.O.P.E.S. (Community of People Extending Support) is a six-week program that provides an outlet for people who have experienced the death of someone near to them. After a significant loss, people often feel isolated. The first days of sympathy quickly fade as life goes on for those less affected by the death. Some seem to expect the person should “be strong”, and that life should go back to normal. This support group offers a combination of education and interaction creates an atmosphere in which grief is validated; where people can normalize their reactions, which they have felt abnormal. In the supportive environment of a group, people feel understood. Their grief is given legitimacy. They find out it is okay to feel the way they do. They learn that grief is a natural reaction to loss.COPES is committed to supporting the community through the volunteering efforts of their staff on issues of death and bereavement.
