Group Name: Epilepsy York Region
Description: Epilepsy York Region is a non-profit, community-based, multi-service agency. Founded in 1988, it now provides support, education and advocacy to an estimated 7,300 to 14,600 people with epilepsy and their families in York Region. Our organization is here because we strongly believe that we can make positive changes and provide a supportive environment for those living with epilepsy and seizure disorders. We believe that we can achieve the support needed through our efforts of public education and awareness.
Epilepsy York Region provides a warm, safe, and mutually-supportive environment to those affected by a seizure disorder. A support group is a place for people to give and receive both emotional and practical support and information to one another. It can be comprised of people with common interests or experiences. Many support groups are diagnosis specific and serve several purposes for each individual. People can meet, socialize, or simply gather to share ideas, personal stories or experiences, issues concerning epilepsy or even coping strategies with one another. We make efforts to provide meetings for:
- Parents of children living with epilepsy
- Adults with epilepsy
- Youth or young adults
