Description: Founded in 1940, the Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) is a charitable agency and the leading provider of services, products, and information that remove barriers to communication, advance hearing health, and promote equity for people who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. CHS is governed by a board of directors, the majority of whom are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing.

The Hearing Care Counselling Program gives home visiting service to hard of hearing seniors on hearing health care needs so that they can continue living independently in their own homes. They also give consultation to professionals/volunteers working with seniors so that the needs of the latter group can be better met.

The program provides assessment, counselling, education and training on hearing loss and the elderly, communication strategies, hearing aids and technical devices; referral to hearing health care professionals; client and family support; presentations and displays for seniors’ groups;in-service training for staff/volunteers working with seniors.
