Description: Working Women is a charitable organization that provides a variety of programs and services, which help immigrant women adjust to living in Toronto. When asked what sets us apart from other charities in the sector, we respond: Working Women is unique in two very distinct ways- their enterprising spirit and their approach with clients.
Our objective is to assist immigrant women to overcome obstacles in areas such as employment, training, education, housing, health, legal matters, family dynamics and social services.
We provide: settlement and supportive counselling, LINC, seniors programming, mentorship program for young women, employment programming, tutoring for Portuguese speaking youth, annual picnic, Christmas party, ESL courses, training programs, community development, referrals. There are wife assault support groups for Portuguese and African women, regular information sessions and income tax clinic.
Immigrant and refugee women and their families experience many short and long term barriers to integration. Our services ranges from assistance with basic survival and orientation, such as securing social assistance, to helping long time immigrants who continue to experience barriers.
Newly arrived immigrants receive one-to-one information, orientation, referrals, documentation, interpreting, translation, occasional escorts, supportive counselling and advocacy.
