Group Name: Progress Place – Peer Support Telephone Line (The Warm Line)

Description: Progress Place is a community-based organization that focuses on recovery. The only organization of its kind in the city of Toronto, Progress Place offers its 700+ members community, friendship and opportunities for housing, employment and education.

The Warm Line: Can’t sleep? Feeling Lonely, isolated or distressed? No one to talk to? The Warm Line is for men and women with mental illness living in the Greater Toronto area in need of a friend with an empathetic ear, someone who will really listen. The Warm Line is operated by peers who have been there, understand, and are aware of the loneliness and isolation felt by the people calling to talk. The Warm Line was the first program in Canada to offer peer support telephone line to people living with mental illness. Originally created to extend support to Progress Place members outside of Clubhouse hours, the Warm Line is available to anyone with mental illness living in the Greater Toronto area. Receiving over 9,000 calls per year, the Warm Line offers support 7 days a week from 8 pm to midnight, a time when most other community mental health services are closed.
