Group Name: Family Service Toronto – Spanish Speaking Parents’ Group

Description: Family Service Toronto (FST) helps people face a wide variety of life challenges. For almost 100 years, we have been assisting families and individuals through counselling, community development, advocacy and public education programs. Our services are available to everyone who lives or works in Toronto. Family Service Toronto collaborates with individuals, families and communities to create lasting, measurable improvements in their health and well-being. We achieve this through counselling, education, social action, advocacy, community development and working with partners to advance a vibrant community services sector.

The Spanish-Speaking Parents’ Group at Family Service Toronto has evolved over the years to meet the needs of the participants. Originally a group to support mothers, it has become a broader, parent and friend-focused supportive environment, united by language and experience, that gives people a chance to explore topics of significance to them. Many newcomer parents do not have extended families living in close proximity to them. During group meetings, parents share their knowledge and their resources in a welcoming environment. In doing so, they help one another break down the barriers that prevent their children from integrating into the local community. The group meets once per month and membership is open.
