Group Name: The Etobicoke Children’s Centre – SNAP: Stop Now and Plan
Description: At The Etobicoke Children’s Centre, we are dedicated to providing services to children, youth and their families who experience challenges related to mental health and autism. We believe in a collaborative approach to addressing the needs of children and youth, working with parents, caregivers, and the community to promote support for the individual child and awareness in the community. Our multidisciplinary team assists at every stage, providing prevention, early intervention, consultation, treatment, and transition support, according to each family’s unique needs.
The SNAP: Stop Now and Plan Program is:
- For children who are experiencing significant difficulties at home, school, in the community and with peers
- For children who are engaging in antisocial behaviours (e.g. theft, vandalism, bullying) and have had contact or are at risk of having contact with police due to their behaviour
- Parents and children will learn how to deal effectively with their anger and come up with a positive plan of action; a plan that makes their problems smaller, not bigger
- Parents will also learn different strategies to help manage their child’s behaviour at home
Group for parents and children run at the same time. Includes a light supper and childcare for those children not in the group. Who should come: Parents and children. ***All participants are asked to participate in evaluation of their experience of this service.
