Group Name: Family Association for Mental Health Everywhere (FAME) – Youth Support

Description: FAME supports families so that they can live their lives and care for themselves and their loved ones, even in the face of mental health challenges. Their goal is for no family to experience these challenges alone. FAME helps reduce the stress of coping with mental illness by strengthening and supporting family members in your role as caregivers. They can provide advocacy, education, referrals and counseling to families and caregivers facing the challenges of any mental health issue. FAME works hard to ensure that families have a strong voice within the communities. They are based on a self-help model which respects and supports the expertise that families have regarding their mentally ill relative and their experience in the system.

Maybe someone in your family is struggling with a mental illness. Maybe it’s your mom, your dad, a brother or sister. Or, maybe it’s your classmate or a friend. Maybe it’s even your best friend. It can be really hard to understand what that person is going through, and even harder to know how to help. You know you want to do something, but you don’t know what you should do, or even know how to start talking about it. We offer one to one, confidential support to youth between the ages of 12 to 18. Someone to listen, if you want to talk. Someone who knows what you’re going through. You might not know where to turn, to sort it all out. Sometimes a phone call is enough to get you started on the road to understanding what your family member or friend is going through. We are here for you when you are ready to talk.
