Description: Casey House is a specialty HIV/AIDS hospital with community programming including home care and outreach programs. Founded in 1988, we were the first freestanding HIV/AIDS facility in Canada. Our commitment is to provide compassionate health care to people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. We provide services wherever they are needed, whether in our clients’ homes, at clinics, or on board the mobile health bus.
Harm Reduction at Casey House is an approach used to address health and wellness for people living with HIV/AIDS. A Harm Reduction approach not only recognizes that it is not realistic to keep people from engaging in certain activities, but also values people’s right to make choices for themselves. The core principle of harm reduction is that it is beneficial to prevent and reduce the harm that can be associated with drug use. Casey House’s approach to Harm Reduction will utilize a range of practical strategies. They include but are not limited to:
- Matching care and interventions to your desired goals for health
- Condom Distribution
- Methadone maintenance
- Education to maximize safety for clients, staff and the environment
