Group Name: The Sashbear Foundation – Social Groups for BPD and Emotion Dyregulation

Description: The Sashbear Foundation was started after the passing of Sasha Menu Courey. Our beloved daughter Sasha suffered from a mental disorder called Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and her tremendous emotional pain and suffering caused her to take her own life despite the full love and support of her family and friends. Countless people have been diagnosed and are in dire need for help but the treatment, called Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), is relatively new and resources and adequate treatment programs for this specialized therapy are extremely scarce and/or unaffordable. The objective of this fund is to increase the visibility for this devastating disorder so that more funds are made available to help the countless wonderful people and their families that are affected by this condition.

The Family Connections program is for family members with emotion dysregulation problems. It’s run by family members, for family members. The program provides families with the knowledge and skills to better understand their loved one and their own well-being. It will also help to develop a support network for the family members who participate. This 12-session skills-based group is free of charge, and is being offered by the Sashbear Foundation and Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre.
