Stella’s Place is looking for an ONTrack Fitness and Wellness Program Peer Support Worker for a temporary, part time position.
POSITION: Peer Support Worker – Project Contract, Part-Time, Temporary
PROGRAM: ONTrack Fitness and Wellness Program
SALARY: $20.00 Per hour
COMMITMENT: Approximately 12 hours per week (daytime, evening and weekend hours; flexible schedule) from February 2016 to March 2017.
Initiated by young adults and their families, Stella’s Place will deliver comprehensive mental health services to young adults (16 – 29 years) in a positive, peer-driven and recovery-focused community setting. We are seeking a peer support worker to assist young adults participating in our ONTrack Fitness and Wellness Program in collaboration with the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (MNJCC).
The Peer Support Worker will work closely with the Project Manager and staff of Stella’s Place and the MNJCC to support young adults to participate and to reach their wellness and fitness goals.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
_ Provide information about the program and introduce the schedule and activities to participants.
_ Support young adults in a goal planning process.
_ Participate in each activity in order to support young adult participation.
_ Provide support before, during and after each session to ensure young adult success.
_ Follow up with young adults throughout the program to support regular attendance.
_ Contribute to the development of programming with partners and peers.
_ Liaise with partners, program coordinator, and Stella’s Place staff.
_ Attend Community of Practice and staff Meetings as required.
_ Report to Peer Initiative Manager.
_Peer Support Training (either from Stella’s Place, or elsewhere)
_ Prior experience and passion for wellness and fitness programming (Recreation leadership is a strong asset)
_Prior Experience working with a diverse team from different professional backgrounds
_ Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to engage and motivate others.
_ Committed to on-going learning
_ Strong verbal and written communication skills
_ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
_ Proficiency in communicating via email.
_ Demonstrated experience of positive participation in team or committee work.
_ Demonstrated organizational skills.
_ Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
_ Demonstrated ability to respond to feedback.
_ Understanding of the impact of oppression; demonstrated commitment to engagement of diverse communities.
_ Scheduling flexibility (must have some availability during daytime, weekend and evening hours).
_ Prior experience with front line peer support provision is an asset.
_ Some post-secondary experience and past/current participation in training programs.
_ Knowledge of youth and young adult mental health services and recreational resources.
_ Experience with group facilitation.
_ Standard First Aid, CPR C and ASIST training are assets.
_ Volunteer or paid work in a social or community service.
_Preference will be given to candidates who are young adults (age 17– 30) and who have lived experience of mental health issues.
