Goodbye to OSHNET, hello to Provincial Outreach!
As many of you are probably aware by now, SHRC's Ontario Self Help Network (OSHET) has had its funding cut by the Ministry of Health Promotion as a part of that Ministry's restructuring. Our funding for the program ended on September 30th, 2009. That doesn't mean however, that our programs and services are going away.
SHRC is in the midst of a strategic planning process which has reaffirmed our organization's provincial scope. We are more determined than ever to find ways of doing what we do best: promoting self-help and peer support across Ontario. Only now we will need to be more creative.
SHRC is committed to continuing the work done by OSHNET through what we are calling "Provincial Outreach." Many of you who got to know our OSHNET Coordinator Spencer Brennan will be happy to know that Spencer is now the new Provincial Outreach Coordinator.
SHRC is also in the process of developing a fundraising strategy that will enable us to continue to work with many groups. We are looking at developing fee for service workshops with a sliding scale so that all organizations, individuals and groups who would like to access our services are able to do so. We look forward to continuing our work with our affiliates, non-governmental organizations, self-help groups and individuals across the province in promoting self-help/peer support.
