Group Name: Ethiopian Association in the GTA – Seniors’ Program

Description: Ethiopian Association in the Greater Toronto Area and Surrounding Regions is non-political, non-profit, independent, community-based organization that provides settlement and social services to people of Ethiopian origin and others since November 1980. The Association’s programs and services are provided without discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, ethnic origin, creed, political affiliation, religion, physical or mental disability.

The Seniors’ Program at the Ethiopian Association in the GTA offers: Social reintegration (picnic programs, monthly/biweekly meetings/discussions between and among seniors on their own issues, handcraft activities, organizing get-together events), Psychosocial support (meal program, individual and group counseling, personal support and nursing care), Organizing workshops and training, Cultural promotion (involve seniors’ as an ambassador of Ethiopian culture, social values and norms, build socio-cultural bridge between Ethiopian seniors and youth), and service referral (referral to various service providing agencies), and Advocacy.

York West Active Living Centre

Group Name: York West Active Living Centre

Description: York West Active Living Centre (Y W A L C) is a community based resource centre for persons 55 years of age and older. Y W A L C has been serving the Weston community for over 33 years. Our Centre is a member based organization with leadership provided by a Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers. The Centre employs qualified program instructors and other support staff. Thanks to the high level of volunteer involvement, Y W A L C is able to accomplishing its aims. The York West Active Living Centre hosts a variety of different peer groups for seniors, including:
