Borderline Personality Disorder Support Group

B P D C o n n e c t s a n d P i e c e o f M i n d C o u n s e l l i n g
A support group dedicated to those who directly or indirectly suffer with
anxiety, depression and/or Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

What is Borderline Personality Disorder?
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a psychological disorder that, through
its very intense emotional turmoil, mood swings, and instability, can be very
unsettling to the lives of those affected by it and those living it.

For those experiencing the symptoms of BPD, it can feel like there is no hope.
But, with the right treatment and recovery plan, you can learn to cope with your
symptoms so they no longer disturb the lives of others or your own.

Our Approach
Our main treatment approach is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical
Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

CBT is a type of therapy used for those who have difficulty understanding their
thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

DBT is a type of therapy used for those who experience very intense emotions
and have challenges with impulsive behavior, difficulties in relationships and
feeling lost with their own identity.

Our support group sessions are held on the third Thursday of each
month. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held for one hour.

Where are we? 100 Matheson Blvd, Suite 203 Mississauga, Ontario L4Z 2G7

Please bring a pen and paper along with you.
Refreshments will be provided.

Dialectical Living – Social Groups for BPD / Emotion Dysregulation

Group Name: Dialectical Living – Social Groups for BPD / Emotion Dysregulation

Description: Recognizing the extreme need for services, Dialectical Living, in collaboration with Sashbear.org, was formed to provide Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills and support to those in need. We would like to reduce the needless suffering for many by offering more options to acquire skills learning and support with trained peers. We strive to create a safe environment to learn and grow. Our mission is to enable those who struggle with emotion regulation and their families and friends a better quality of life; as Marsha Linehan says “a life worth living”. We are a group of individuals who are passionate about helping others and teaching and using DBT skills. Each of us have lived experience and have been touched by emotion regulation disorder either ourselves and/or have lived or worked with others who struggle. We are a group of peers trained in DBT and this unique combination can provide unparalleled support through shared understandings. We each have a unique background and several of us work in the healthcare field or are studying to become social workers and health service workers.

The Sashbear Foundation – Family Connections Program for BPD

Group Name: The Sashbear Foundation – Social Groups for BPD and Emotion Dyregulation

Description: The Sashbear Foundation was started after the passing of Sasha Menu Courey. Our beloved daughter Sasha suffered from a mental disorder called Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and her tremendous emotional pain and suffering caused her to take her own life despite the full love and support of her family and friends. Countless people have been diagnosed and are in dire need for help but the treatment, called Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), is relatively new and resources and adequate treatment programs for this specialized therapy are extremely scarce and/or unaffordable. The objective of this fund is to increase the visibility for this devastating disorder so that more funds are made available to help the countless wonderful people and their families that are affected by this condition.

The Family Connections program is for family members with emotion dysregulation problems. It’s run by family members, for family members. The program provides families with the knowledge and skills to better understand their loved one and their own well-being. It will also help to develop a support network for the family members who participate. This 12-session skills-based group is free of charge, and is being offered by the Sashbear Foundation and Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre.

Where: Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood & Community Health Centre | 1900 Davenport Road | Toronto, ON M6N 1B7

When: Starting June 17, 2015 until September 9, 2015. Every Wednesday 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ** No class on Canada Day, July 1st.
