Midaynta Community Services – Senior Services

Group Name: Midaynta Community Services – Senior Services

Description: Midaynta Community Services is a registered Canadian charity organization that provides settlement services and other programs that advances education by providing courses, seminars, meetings, counseling and other support services for refugees & immigrant in need. Midaynta Community Services is a social and settlement services agency, working to improve the quality of life of newcomers in Toronto and vicinity.

Senior Services
Midaynta joined the Breaking Down the Barriers to Seniors Services project under the Multi Agency Partnership Project (MAPP) in 2003. The program was funded by the United Way of Greater Toronto.
The seniors’ services program was consequently developed over the following 3 years and is run at Weston and Lawrence area. It has become quite popular among the Somali senior population. Through the program, seniors have access to recreational and educational programs, congregate dining, various health-related services, meals on wheels, transportation and escort, home help/homemaking, respite care, adult day programs and seniors’ case management (information and referral, crisis intervention and assistance).

Luma Care – Diners Club

Group Name: Luma Care – Diners Club

Description: Luma Care aspires to enhance, engage, and empower the members of their diverse community by providing equitable, accessible and high quality services. They also achieve excellence and provide leadership in family-centric health and social services in the community. They provide resources such as Meals on Wheels, transportation, home support, Diners Club, Home at Last, and many more.

Our Diners Club offers older adults the opportunity to have nutritious lunches together in a friendly setting. Gentle exercise and stimulating activities are part of the daily menu. Special events and cultural programming make this a highly popular program.

Circle of Care – Wednesday Group

Group Name: Circle of Care – Wednesday Group (Diners Club)

Description: We have been serving the Toronto area since 1974. It all began in 1970, when Circle of Care was launched as a demonstration project called Coordinated Services to Jewish Elderly, under auspices of the Toronto Jewish Welfare Fund (now the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto). We have gone through a few name changes over the years to reflect our expanded mandate. We now serve individuals of many faiths and cultures, and our clients include people of all ages.

Let’s Get Together- Wednesday Group
Come and share your experiences with others in a safe and friendly group environment. This group offers an opportunity to meet and mingle with others, join us for a nutritious meal (special dietary meals available), learning and entertainment. Two-way transportation is included. Cost:$5 per session and registration is required. There are two social workers assigned to your program. They are available to provide the following services: responding to questions or concerns related to your participation in Let’s Get Together, information about community services and supportive counseling.

Group Name: Silver Circle: West Toronto Services for Seniors – Community Dining Program

Description: Silver Circle’s mission is to help seniors live independently for longer and for those who care for seniors to be able to provide care by having: respite, physical and emotional support, and the information to make informed choices.

Community Dining Program
Offers a hot, nutritious lunch away from home at various community venues, and this outing provides an opportunity for socialization and recreation. We also offer a monthly Lunch Date Program at different restaurants and community sites. A great chance to meet new friends!
