Family Services Toronto – Walk In Counselling

Group Name:  Family Services Toronto – Walk In Counselling

Description:  We offer a FREE single session counselling session with a trained Counsellor or Psychotherapist. The counselling session is usually about 50 minutes and is open to all persons 18 years of age and older.  Single Session Counselling can provide you with the emotional support, feedback and ideas on how to make positive changes in your life. Each counselling session is treated like a distinct counselling session with no expectation that you come back for a subsequent session.  Please call the Service Access Unit at 416-595-9618 to inquire about the times when service is offered in languages other than English.

When:  Wednesdays from 3:30-7:30 p.m.   Registration begins at 3 p.m. and last appointment starts 6:15pm.

Miles Nadal JCC – Together in Movement and Exercise (TIME)

Group Name:  Together in Movement and Exercise (TIME).

Group Description:  TIME™ is a group exercise program originally designed by Toronto Rehab-UHN physiotherapists and led by fitness instructors at local community centres across Canada. The program was developed for adults who have challenges with balance and mobility.

This program is for you if you want to:

  • Get fit and increase your energy
  • Be more confident in your balance
  • Feel stronger and more active
  • Enjoy the many benefits of exercise
  • Move with more ease in your home and community

Join TIME™ in a local community centre for a program that provides safe and beneficial exercise to meet these goals. Classes are one hour long, 1-2 times per week, usually 10-12 weeks.

Participants must be able to walk independently for 10 m (30 feet) with or without a cane or walker. Many of the participants in the class have difficulties with balance or moving around in their home or community due to conditions such as stroke or MS. Registration fees for the TIME program vary. Please inquire at the specific site in your area. Subsidies may be available from the community centre

Description:  Stella’s Studio is an arts-based community by and for young adults with lived experience. Peers are welcome to join us to connect and create in a safe space where everyone’s art is celebrated.  The group is for youth aged 16 to 29 years of age.

Description: Services included:

Shelter and support program

Support program is open to any refugees that have been in Canada for under 6 months who are single women or families

  • Basic needs assessment upon arrival to the shelter and referrals for further follow up
  • Assistance to access basic services such as healthcare, education, ESL, banking
  • Help to make refugee claims
  • Housing orientations and support to secure permanent housing
  • Provision of cross-cultural and health promotion workshops
  • On-site workshops are offered on parenting, budgeting, children & safety, and health issues.

  • Participation in residents, family and children’s meetings
  • In-house computer lab
  • Gifts-in-kind (clothing, personal care items)

Yoga Group- Working with Stress and Anxiety – Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) and Family Outreach and Response (FOR)

Group Name:  Yoga, Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) and Family Outreach and Response (FOR)

Description:  Yoga- Working with Stress and Anxiety is a 5 week introduction to yoga course.  The course aims at assisting participants cope with stress and anxiety.  All abilities are welcome.  Yoga mats and light refreshments will be provided.

Stella’s Place and the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre – Fitness and Wellness Program.

Group Name:  On Track – Stella’s Place in partnership with Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (MNJCC)
Description:  ONTrack is a FREE, peer-supported fitness, recreational, wellness and physical literacy program, for young adults 16-24 (If you fall outside of these age ranges please contact us and we can direct you to additional resources) with mild to moderate mood or mental health challenges.

Description: We have partnered with the Self-Help Resource Centre to offer WRAP specifically to youth aged 16-25. This program is tailored for a younger cohort, with an emphasis on making the process of learning about wellness tools an enjoyable and engaging one. After Youth WRAP Through Fitness, you will have a fully developed Wellness Recovery Action Plan and many new connections to the supports and services available. Within a group setting, individuals explore self-help tools (eg. peer counseling, focusing exercises, relaxation & stress reduction techniques) and resources for keeping themselves well and for helping themselves feel better in difficult times.

This group meets on Mondays for 10 weeks, with the optional fitness component starting at 11:00 am and the WRAP sessions running from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Description: WRAP helps you to discover your own simple and safe wellness tools and helps you identify when you need to use them. Anyone can use WRAP to get well, stay well and make their life the way they want it to be.
Within a group setting, individuals explore self-help tools (eg. peer counseling, focusing exercises,
relaxation & stress reduction techniques) and resources for keeping themselves well and for helping
themselves feel better in difficult times.
The group meets for 9 weeks starting October 9th, 2015 and runs every Friday until December 4th, 2015.
WRAP Through Fitness was developed by Gerstein Crisis Centre to incorporate WRAP learning with
physical activity, assisting participants in exploring physical fitness and nutrition as recovery tools. We
have partnered with the Downtown YMCA and access their facilities for this project. While the fitness
component is optional, past participants say it was highly beneficial and added to their overall
experience of WRAP.
