Hong Fook MHA – South Asian Mental Health Clinic

Group Name: Hong Fook Mental Health Association & Mount Sinai Hospital (Assertive Community Treatment Team)

Description: Hong Fook Mental Health Association was established in 1982 to address the mental health concerns in the East Asian communities. They currently serve these communities:
Cambodian, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Mount Sinai Hospital is a 446-bed acute care academic health sciences centre affiliated with the University of Toronto that is dedicated to delivering the best medicine and best patient experience. It is focused on excellence in patient and family-centred care, innovative education and leading-edge research.

The Association aims to help people with linguistic and cultural barriers to gain access to mental health services. They provide the following services to clients and their families:

Korean Canadian Women’s Association – Support for Young Women

Group Name: Korean Canadian Women’s Association (KCWA) – Young Women Support/”YOUNG EVERGREEN”

Description: KCWA Family and Social Services is a non-profit organization established in 1985 by a group of women who were concerned with women and family issues. KCWA’s mission: “Building the Korean-Canadian community, one person at a time.”

To do this, They aspire to:

— Empower all members of the community to live free from violence, poverty and inequity.
— Provide culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services and programs.
— Enhance the well being of immigrant families and promote their efforts to realize their potential.

Young Women Support/”YOUNG EVERGREEN” Is a supportive group for single women in their 20s and 30s. This group is to disseminate knowledge on Boundaries in Dating through educational materials and discussion. Participants will learn the meaning of ‘Boundaries’ and how to set the boundaries in relationship.

Women’s Support Group/EVERGREEN is a group open to any immigrant women who are interested in self-expression through painting. No artistic skills required. Participants will learn a simple and easy technique of ‘self-expression’ through painting and that even a simple line or color can reflect one’s feelings and thoughts. Its goal is for women to be heard and understood through self-expression using each individual’s pictorial language.
