Description: North York Community House (NYCH) is a dynamic neighbourhood centre offering innovative programs and services to newcomers & residents, helping build strong, healthy communities.

NYCH has offered a variety of community kitchen programs for many years – the popularity of these groups is based on a powerful combination of food and fun. Participants get to know others in their communities, while cooking and eating delicious, nutritious meals together. These groups also provide an opportunity to learn about other supports and resources in the community, and discuss issues of concern. NYCH also conducts training sessions so that newcomers can learn how to facilitate their own community kitchen groups.

Across Boundaries – Women’s Group

Group Name: Across Boundaries – Women’s Group

Description: Across Boundaries is a mental health centre which provides a range of supports and services to people from racialized communities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who are experiencing severe mental health problems/serious mental illness. The centre believes in a holistic approach to mental health care and operates within an anti-racism/anti-oppression framework. Across Boundaries’ Support Group Services address individual, systemic and ethno specific issues which affect their mental health. The goal is to empower individuals and communities to take control of their health. These groups would include family and peer support groups.

Women’s Group: Women in the group share experiences, gain support and learn effective coping skills from each other as well as how to overcome barriers in the health system. **** These programs and services are provided for those who are 16 years and older and identify themselves as a racialized individual. Persons wishing to attend must first be enrolled as a client at Across Boundaries and live in the Greater Toronto Area. There is no fee for this program or any meetings.

Community Resource Connections of Toronto – Mental Health Support

Group Name: Community Resource Connections of Toronto – Toronto North Support Services (Access 1)

Description: CRCT operates an active web site containing information about events, news and resources. The web site also has a searchable database of mental health services, supports and resources available in Toronto. We are working to provide a comprehensive source of information which meets the needs of consumer/survivors, family members and service providers.

Access 1 provides individuals and their family members with information and support in accessing mental health case management and assertive community treatment teams in North York and Scarborough. It is an up to date source of information on individual support services provided by 14 mental health service providers in North York and Scarborough. Model of service is coordinated access system.
