Gerstein Crisis Centre – Youth WRAP Through Fitness (Wellness Recovery Action Plan)

Group Name: Gerstein Crisis Centre – Youth WRAP Through Fitness (Wellness Recovery Action Plan)

Description: We have partnered with the Self-Help Resource Centre to offer WRAP specifically to youth aged 16-25. This program is tailored for a younger cohort, with an emphasis on making the process of learning about wellness tools an enjoyable and engaging one. After Youth WRAP Through Fitness, you will have a fully developed Wellness Recovery Action Plan and many new connections to the supports and services available. Within a group setting, individuals explore self-help tools (eg. peer counseling, focusing exercises, relaxation & stress reduction techniques) and resources for keeping themselves well and for helping themselves feel better in difficult times.

This group meets on Mondays for 10 weeks, with the optional fitness component starting at 11:00 am and the WRAP sessions running from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Where: Central YMCA, 20 Grosvenor Street | Toronto, ON M4Y 2V5

Description: WRAP helps you to discover your own simple and safe wellness tools and helps you identify when you need to use them. Anyone can use WRAP to get well, stay well and make their life the way they want it to be.
Within a group setting, individuals explore self-help tools (eg. peer counseling, focusing exercises,
relaxation & stress reduction techniques) and resources for keeping themselves well and for helping
themselves feel better in difficult times.
The group meets for 9 weeks starting October 9th, 2015 and runs every Friday until December 4th, 2015.
WRAP Through Fitness was developed by Gerstein Crisis Centre to incorporate WRAP learning with
physical activity, assisting participants in exploring physical fitness and nutrition as recovery tools. We
have partnered with the Downtown YMCA and access their facilities for this project. While the fitness
component is optional, past participants say it was highly beneficial and added to their overall
experience of WRAP.

Group Name: Gerstein Crisis Centre – Women’s Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)

Description: Gerstein Crisis Centre was established 25 years ago in Toronto to meet the recognized need for providing non-medical community based support reflecting the needs and wishes of people experiencing mental health crisis.

WRAP stands for Wellness Recovery Action Plan. It’s a program that was developed in Vermont, USA, in 1997 by Mary Ellen Copeland and a group of friends who had all experienced the mental health system. Taking care of your physical, mental and emotional health by incorporating physical activity into your personal wellness plan. This 9 week WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) Session will provide you with the resources. To facilitate your own personal growth, Recover and wellness. In a small group setting, Central YMCA WRAP trained Health Educators and Gerstein Centre WRAP facilitators will help you map your own personal wellness plan and assist you in seeing it through.

Group Name: Margaret’s Housing and Community Support Services – Wellness Recovery

Description: Margaret’s provides a continuum of housing and support services for women with mental illness through innovative programming, advocacy and education, which empowers them to build and reclaim their lives. Our programs encompass crisis, interim and long-term solutions for women 18 years and over, and their families. Margaret’s services include helping clients obtain and maintain permanent and affordable housing, Mental Health and Justice, Community Crisis support and Individualized Senior Support. Together they provide clients with a stable living environment, community tenure, care and identity. Our support services are holistic, client directed, and recovery based. They help to identify and reignite the inner strength and resiliency of each client that we support.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
WRAP empowers participants to use their internal and external strengths. This is accomplished through a series of workshops that focus on relapse prevention, illness education, and wellness tools. One of the unique aspects of this program is that it operates strictly from a peer-to-peer model.

Friends and Advocates Centre – Pathways to Recovery

Group Name: Friends and Advocates Centre – Pathways to Recovery

Description: Friends and Advocates provides an opportunity for friendship to those recovering from mental illness or emotional distress; arranges social and recreational activities in the community to improve socialization and communication skills; holds interesting discussion groups and life skills sessions to develop interpersonal skills; educates community groups and individuals about mental health; speaks out on behalf of members about mental health issues; provides crisis intervention for members.

Pathways to Recovery® is a program that you will use as a tool to help you on your recovery journey. Pathways to Recovery® is a 12 week program that requires 2 hours per week of class time. You will also work on the material on your own time but there is no set schedule. It will help you discover what recovery looks like and decide the path you want to take to achieve it. It is an extensive workbook, about 400 pgs but you will use this book throughout your journey to recovery not just in the 12 weeks. It will orient you to move forward in your mental health recovery, help you identify your personal strengths and dreams, help you focus and re-establish your sources of identity and reclaim your lifestyle beyond a person with a psychiatric disability. It will help you think about who you are and the path you want to take to achieve your goals.

Community Resource Connections of Toronto – Wellness Group

Group Name: Community Resource Connections of Toronto – Scarborough Wellness Group

Description: CRCT operates an active web site containing information about events, news and resources. The web site also has a searchable database of mental health services, supports and resources available in Toronto. We are working to provide a comprehensive source of information which meets the needs of consumer/survivors, family members and service providers.

This is a free activity for adults in the Scarborough area who are living with mental health issues. It is a wellness-based recovery program being developed by people recovering from mental health issues. Suggested activities include: Learning and sharing about recovery through guest speakers and videos; Yoga; Nutrition and fitness; Creative Art; Music appreciation; Self Advocacy; Out and About: walking group; Peer support; And much more and your suggestions are welcome.
